Feeling unmotivated too often? And it starts driving you crazy? I feel the same way. Well, not too often, but sometimes, I just feel really lazy and my motivation simply disappears.
But, there are some simple solutions I have found that can bring my motivation and excitement back. I’m convinced they’ll work for you as well.
Now, I will share those easy and practical steps with you in order to quickly motivate yourself whenever you feel less energized and unmotivated.
1. Make (and keep) a deal with yourself
This is excellent way to avoid procrastination and get things done. Just imagine as if you make a deal with another person, and you don’t want to disappoint them. It is very simple, tell yourself something like: When I finish this project I can go out. Once you’ve done it, you’ll notice how powerful this suggestion might be.
2. Act like it
If you don’t feel motivated or excited, than pretend and act like it. Believe it or not, within a few minutes you’ll actually feel motivated and excited for real. Strange, but definitely true.
3. Set big and specific goals
Forget about small goals, they can’t motivate yourself as much as one big goal can. A big goal has a big effect on your motivation.
4. Do something useful
Clean your desk, make your bed, or wash the dishes, just get started. Finishing some small tasks will make you feel useful and fulfilled, which additionally will make you feel ready to do something else, and it can be the thing you actually procrastinated doing because of the lack of motivation. So, get started!
5. Don’t force yourself, start slow
Instead of forcing yourself to finish as soon as possible, start slow. This way your mind will accept and visualize the task as something easy which will result with increased motivation. The effort to work fast will create an unnecessary pressure which will make you give up easier, or you won’t get started at all.
Actually, getting started, even if it’s at a slow pace is much better than not getting started at all.
6. Don’t compare yourself with others
Comparing what you have and what you have achieved to what others have and their results is the worst thing you can ever do for yourself. If you continue comparing yourself with others, it can really kill your motivation.
There are always people ahead of you, from whom you can learn, and people behind who you can teach and help. Stop with that irrational thinking, instead stay focused on your own journey and leave footprints behind.
7. Celebrate your successes
Remember your successes and celebrate them. Write down all your successes since it’s easy to forget them when you feel unmotivated. So, whenever you feel down, try to motivate yourself – remind yourself of your successes, and you’ll notice positive energy flowing into your mind, which will boost your mood, making you feel confident and worthy.
8. Step out of your comfort zone
Most of the people want to feel safe and comfortable, to live a life without any fears and disruptions. Believe me, that’s not what you’re looking for, that’s not your life purpose. When you get out of your comfort zone you’ll realize that that is the best thing you’ve ever done, because everything you were afraid of was worth experiencing. Doing new things and facing new challenges will motivate you, and help you move forward.
9. Understand your life’s purpose
The meaning of your life is to find your purpose. Take time to find out what it is, because once you find your why, you’ll be able to find your way. It would change your perspective and everything that you’re doing will make sense. If you know your life’s purpose it would be much easier to motivate yourself whenever you feel discouraged.
10. Surround yourself with the people that inspire you
Spending more time with positive people who inspire you will definitely bring your motivation back. Their company will make you feel aware, energized, strong, and able to achieve your biggest goals when you need it most.
11. Learn to say NO
If you say yes to everything, you’re going to lose yourself trying to please others, and you’ll feel overwhelmed and ineffective. Learn to say NO, put yourself and your needs first, practice it over and over again, and it will lead you to mastery and success.
12. Have fun
Life’s much better when you have a good time. Motivate yourself while singing, dancing, laughing and enjoying your life. You’ll notice that when you’re in a good mood you’ll feel more energized, positive and optimistic, and the others will notice that too.
13. Remember the value of time
Your time is limited. You don’t want to spend your time on the things you don’t really care about. Once you spend it, you can never earn it back.
Use your time wisely. Find more time to spend it with your loved ones, with your family and friends. Remember that time is your most valuable asset. In that way you’ll motivate yourself to make a difference now.
14. Look your excuses in the eye
Excuses are your greatest enemy. If you see you’re using an excuse, stop immediately, because you’ll get used to it. It’s never too late to correct yourself and make things right. And remember: If something is really important to you, you’ll find a way, but if not, you’ll find an excuse.
15. Take 20 seconds to motivate yourself
Whenever you feel unmotivated, or afraid, apply the “20-second rule”. You just need 20 seconds to encourage and motivate yourself to do something. Just be decisive, be bold, and do it. The final result may not be perfect, but you’ll know deep inside that you took that step, which is one step closer.
