The Life of Death is a touching hand drawn animation about the day Death fell in love with Life.
Made by Marsha Onderstijn, The Life Of Death is a stunning artistic force.
After being well received on various animation festivals and being featured on the EYE film DVD of Selected Dutch Shorts it is finally online!
As we all know, everything Death touches, dies. So, one day when Death is walking through the forest, it sees a deer. Death wants to touch the deer and feels an overwhelming sense of longing and loneliness because he knows he can’t or it will die…and he doesn’t want it to die.
The idea that death takes living beings because he is in love with life isn’t a new idea. This version of Death is softer than most, metaphorically relating a more ‘human’ side of Death. It would make sense that Death is a sad spirit, with an unquenchable desire for contact and communication.
Absolutely beautiful and powerful storytelling, everything in this short film focuses on making it easier for people to accept death as a natural, almost beautiful and dignified fact. Deeply touching and immersive thought provoking, this animated short movie by Marsha Onderstijn is an absolutely must see!
